Killing of Anthony James Goins in Louisiana in 1944
Incident
Anthony James Goins, 37, a poultry dealer, was shot and killed in 1944 by Cletus G. Fleming, a police radio dispatcher in New Orleans, Louisiana. According to DOJ records, Goins was alleged to have struck and killed Fleming’s father with his automobile. He was charged with homicide and released on bail. According to newspaper accounts, there were no eyewitnesses to the automobile incident. Fleming was indicted for murder in 1944 and was found not guilty by a jury in 1945.
