Incident
William Davis, 38, a tenant farmer, was killed in 1943 by Posseman John Cross in Dallas County, Alabama. Cross mistook Davis for a suspect accused of robbing and handcuffing Sheriff J. C. Griffin to a tree. He claimed Davis failed to stop at his command.
