Killing of Solomon Thompson in Alabama in 1950
Incident
Solomon Thompson, 22, was killed in 1950 by detectives C. H. Vinson and A. L. Herring in Montgomery, Alabama. The detectives were investigating reports about a prowler when they spotted Thompson. After a chase, the officers claimed, Thompson turned on them with his hand in his pocket. The detectives fired, killing Thompson. A coroner returned a finding of justifiable homicide.
