Frank Nash, a 22-year-old miner, was killed in 1950 by police officers R.C. Casey and Daniel Purvis in Birmingham, Alabama. The officers said they arrived at a supermarket in response to a burglary call when they saw Nash chopping at the back door of the store with an ax. Nash reportedly dropped the ax and ran. Casey and Purvis each fired twice.
