Maxwell Mills (1913-1939), a laborer, was killed by police officer Duffy Grimsley in Crisp County, Georgia. Newspapers reported that Grimsley and Deputy R.P. Burlington had arrested Mills, and as they were driving him to jail, Mills grabbed Grimsley’s gun and started shooting; that Grimsley grabbed the gun back; that Mills fled, and Grimsley shot him in the arm and abdomen.
