Case summary

George Curry, 52, a tenant farmer and WWI veteran, was killed in 1946 by a posse in Wilkinson County, Georgia. Curry had killed 65-year-old Dora Gilbert and seriously injured Sam Gilbert, a mail carrier. The Gilberts owned the farm where Curry worked. Curry’s wife reportedly told authorities that Curry shot the couple and set fire to the barn. A posse of 75 white men hunted down Curry and shot him to death.
