Killing of W. M. Johnson in Alabama in 1938

The Rev. W. M. Johnson was killed in 1938 by W. E. Deer, Cult Welch and Arthur English in Monroe County, Alabama. The three white men went to whip Johnson and when he refused to throw up his hands, shot him four times. The dispute was over a chattel mortgage of $447.72.
