Allen Green, age 51, a town employee, was killed in 1930 by a mob in Walhalia, Oconee, South Carolina. Green was being held on a charge of attempting to assault a white woman. A mob dragged Green from jail after beating Sheriff John Thomas. The mob tied Green to a tree and shot him multiple times. John Sanders, alleged to have been in the mob, was arrested. Green’s widow Emma obtained a $2,000 judgment against the county.
