Killing of Ball Smith in Georgia in 1947
Incident
Ball Smith (1895 - 1947), a farmer, was killed by Sheriff H. F. Herrington in Quitman County, Georgia. Herrington came to Smith’s house to arrest Smith’s son. Herrington claimed that he opened fire when Smith sought to prevent the arrest and brandished a revolver.
