Case summary

Zollner Sullivan (1918-1943), an army corporal, was killed by patrolman Chester Matthews in Pulaski County, Arkansas. According to the Atlanta Daily World, Matthews and two other officers were investigating a disturbance at a tavern and allegedly found Sullivan there beating a woman. When they intervened, Sullivan allegedly slashed Matthews with a knife. Matthews shot Sullivan, who died in the hospital.
