Killing of James Franklin in Florida in 1934
Incident
James Franklin, 41, yard hand, was killed in 1934 by Joe Kopman in Bradenton, Manatee County, Florida. Franklin had been arrested for allegedly assaulting Kopmanās daughter. As police officers were escorting Franklin from the office of Dr. L.W. Blake, where Franklin had received a physical and mental examination, Kopman fatally shot him in the back. Grand jury declined to indict.
