Case summary

James Franklin, 41, yard hand, was killed in 1934 by Joe Kopman in Bradenton, Manatee County, Florida. Franklin had been arrested for allegedly assaulting Kopmanā€™s daughter. As police officers were escorting Franklin from the office of Dr. L.W. Blake, where Franklin had received a physical and mental examination, Kopman fatally shot him in the back. Grand jury declined to indict.
