Mack Jiles, 28, a laborer, died in 1936, killed by Chief of Police Beauregard Miller in Gretna, Louisiana. Miller claimed that he arrested Jiles for burglarizing his home, and that when Jiles tried to escape from jail, Miller shot him in the head.
