Case summary

Joe Lee Gladney (1916 - 1948), a public worker, was killed by night marshal Bob Bolton in Winston County, Mississippi. Gladney was arrested by Bolton on a disturbance charge and brought to jail in a taxi. When they reached the jail, Gladney was allegedly attempting to pick up a piece of pipe on the floor when Bolton and the taxi driver stopped him. A scuffle ensued and Bolton shot Gladney, killing him.
