Ernest Ponder, between 14 and 18 years old, was killed in 1937 by a group of men in or near Tallahassee, Leon County, Florida. Ponder and Richard Hawkins, age 16, were arrested and jailed for allegedly breaking into a store and stabbing the investigating officer V.F. Kelley. Police officer Harry Fairbanks allowed a group of men to kidnap the boys. Their bodies were later found on a highway riddled with bullets.
