Killing of Lawrance B. Goodwell in Georgia in 1932
Incident
Lawrence B. Goodwell, age 15, a schoolboy with a paper route, was killed in 1932 perhaps in crossfire involving police in Atlanta, Georgia. Officers L.C. Askew, J.W. Ector, C.R. Henshe, and W.J. Stallings got into a shoot-out with a group of Black people they were trying to arrest for gambling in an alley. Goodwell’s body was later found in the alley with a bullet wound to the head. Witnesses said Goodwell was not involved in the gambling or the shoot-out.
