Killing of Austin Brown in Georgia in 1940
Austin Brown, 16, a laborer, was killed in 1940 by six masked men in Troup County, Georgia. Calloway was accused of an attempted attack on a white woman and arrested. The masked men forced a guard at gunpoint to open the cell door, kidnapped Calloway and fatally shot him. An essay on this case, researched and authored by a CRRJ student, is available on request.
