Killing of Doyle Lee in Georgia in 1940
Incident
Doyle Lee, age 28, a laborer, died in 1940 in a prison work camp in DeKalb County, Georgia. Lee was in prison on a misdemeanor charge. The death certificate lists the cause of death as sunstroke. Witnesses said that Lee had been beaten by prison guards and run over by a truck to make it look like an accidental death.
