Case summary

James Oliver, 29, a laborer, was killed in 1938 by Manuel Paternostro in New Orleans, Louisiana. Oliver went into the bar owned by Paternostro’s father to purchase some beer when he allegedly got into a fight with and was shot by Paternostro. Oliver died later at a hospital. Paternostro was released from jail; the District Attorney declined to prosecute.
