Willie Merriweather, alias “Brown Peg” was killed in 1949 in Bolivar County, Mississippi. Merriweather was killed as police were carrying out an arrest at a rooming house. Former deputy sheriff H. R. Swindall claimed that Merriweather was a “dangerous criminal who had threatened the lives of local officers in the past,” and that he was shot and killed in the course of resisting arrest.
